In this Employee Spotlight, we introduce Kelby! Kelby started as an HR intern in 2021 and grew her career with Dispatch to become a Human Resources Specialist. Learn how Kelby has sharpened her skills over the years and works to support the greater organization.
1. How has your career grown since starting at Dispatch?
I started at Dispatch as an intern with essentially no Human Resources experience beyond what I had learned in school. I am now coming up on my three year anniversary and have developed so many skills and have become so much more knowledgeable in several areas of HR. While at the beginning of my time here my focus was talent acquisition, I've now moved into a Generalist position and support several functions such as benefits and payroll.
2. What does a typical day in your role look like?
No one day is the same, which I love because it ensures my work is stimulating. I spend a lot of time answering our folk's questions and solving issues through the People Team Helpdesk. I work inside our HRIS making updates where necessary and supporting the onboarding, offboarding, and promotions processes. I also support a lot of our L&D work like helping to plan our internship program and helping maintain engagement in the organization.
3. What is a project you have been recently involved in?
The end of 2023 into the beginning of the year was an extremely busy time for us as we worked through rolling out a completely updated employee handbook and had open enrollment around the same time. It was my first year getting to support both of those efforts, so I learned (and am still learning) quite a lot, specifically around benefits administration.
4. So far, what accomplishments are you most proud of here at Dispatch?
I would have to say the thing I'm most proud of is the work I've done to clean up our processes and systems. Whether it's been my efforts in the IT realm, our company's intranet, or helping to build our own HR processes, I feel like I've assisted in putting a lot in place that either didn't exist before or was not documented the way it needed to be. I love things to be organized and consistent, so that work is also just very satisfying to me.
5. Which Dispatch core value(s) resonates with you the most and why?
I'd have to say the Transparency value is something I really with resonate with. I appreciate understanding the "why" behind decisions or changes that are made, and think it's an extremely important value in ensuring everyone at Dispatch understands how their role impacts our company's goals. I also think transparency builds trust and encourages psychological safety in the workplace, which is so necessary for people to be able to be their best selves at work.
6. What is your favorite thing about working at Dispatch?
My favorite thing about working at Dispatch is that I get to be exposed to so many different areas of HR and get a lot of say in the direction I want to take my career in. Everyday I feel like I am developing and learning something new, which keeps me extremely engaged and motivated. I also love the people I get to work with and the way we come together to build upon each other's ideas.
