In this Employee Spotlight, we introduce Lamarr! Lamarr is the Product Marketing & Communications Specialist - Supply. He started at Dispatch in 2019 and has grown his career to become the face of the Dispatch Driver community. From increasing confidence to mastering GTM strategies, learn how Dispatch has empowered him to succeed in his role.
1. How has your career grown since starting at Dispatch?
I'd say the area I've seen the most growth since starting at Dispatch has been my confidence. Confidence in my expertise, confidence that I belong in certain meetings, confidence in speaking up when I don't agree. Dispatch has done a great job of empowering me to speak up when necessary. I've also grown with strategic marketing. Coming into Dispatch I wasn't knowledgeable about go-to-market strategies and now I feel much more comfortable creating a GTM strategy for Product launches. Just growth as a marketer altogether.
2. What does a typical day in your role look like?
Depends on the day but for the most part I start with going through Slack to see if I have anything to respond to immediately or anything that might've fallen through the cracks. Next I go through my Rocks to see what milestones are coming up next then I build my day around what those highest priority items end up being.
3. What is a project you have been recently involved in?
A recent project was increasing driver reviews and ratings in the App Store for the Dispatch Driver App. It was a fun challenge because the drivers who are most likely to leave us a review are the ones who are disgruntled for one reason or another. I was pleasantly surprised that offering a $25 amazon gift card to the first 25 drivers who leave us a rating ended up being really effective, increasing our app reviews by 400 in both app stores. Seeing our rating be 4.5+ after seeing it hover around two for so long was so satisfying.
4. So far, what accomplishments are you most proud of here at Dispatch?
Helping to grow Dispatch's driver reputation to where it is today. Between the top driver program, driver webinars, and enhanced chat capabilities, we're at a great place with our drivers where they trust us to be transparent with them. I pride myself on maintaining that transparency in all driver interactions because they appreciate a straight answer, even if it's not the answer they want to hear.
5. Which Dispatch core value(s) resonates with you the most and why?
Transparency. I think it's so important to build trust, whether that's trust between coworkers or trust between me and drivers. Transparency from my managers has allowed me to do my job better because I know the 'why' behind things. When I know the 'why' I can proceed with proper context. So, from day one, transparency has been my top value, and it hasn't changed since.
6. What is your favorite thing about working at Dispatch?
Being empowered to use my voice. I've worked for companies where it was the opposite culture and I couldn't flourish in that. But at Dispatch, my opinions and expertise are embraced. That's gone a long way toward me growing as a marketing professional while at Dispatch.
7. Anything else you would like to share?
Landing at Dispatch has been a blessing to my marketing career. I've grown into a better person and a better professional since joining Dispatch, and I'm extremely appreciative of the opportunities I've been provided here. I can say Dispatch has been rooting for me and my belief stays strong every day knowing that the company strives to live up to it's values. Five years later, I'm grateful for that LinkedIn message I received asking if I was interested in being the first Driver Engagement Agent here. It's been a fruitful journey that I look forward to continuing at Dispatch.
